The 2012 Roth IRA rules on eligibility states that the modified adjusted gross income limits will be the following:

For single filers, heads of the household, or married filing separately (as long as the couples are not living together during the year): They are still allowed to make full contributions to a Roth IRA if they have a modified adjusted gross income up to $110,000. The contributions are phased out starting at $110,000, and one cannot make a contribution if he is earning an adjusted gross income exceeding $125,000.

For joint filers (married couples) with modified adjusted gross income up to $173,000 can still make a full contribution to a Roth IRA. This contribution is phased out starting at $173,000, and those who earn in excess of $183,000 adjusted gross income are no longer allowed to make a contribution to such IRA plan.

Those individuals with tax filing status Married Filing Separately and the couples are still living together cannot make a Roth IRA contribution if the Annual Gross Income is in excess of $10,000.
